The Seventh Annual Commencement Exercises of Urban Prep Academies was held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at the Civic Opera House located at 20 N. Upper Wacker Drive, Chicago, IL 60606. 250 young men walked across the stage to receive their high school diplomas during the event. The graduating seniors—all African-American males—hail from Urban Prep's Englewood, West and Bronzeville campuses. For the seventh consecutive year, 100% of Urban Prep’s graduating class were accepted to four-year colleges and universities (for more information about this achievement, please click here). The ceremony included remarks by Urban Prep students, alumni and administrators as well as a video message from the cast of Barbershop (click here to see video) and musical performances from Pastor Chris Harris and the Bright Star Ensemble. Through the hard work of Urban Prep students, staff and parents, Urban Prep Academies is changing the narrative for young Black men from one of negative stereotypes to the real story of being college-bound young men.
